Study Tour - The Land of Israel: The Jewish Connection

Three-week summer course in Haifa

We would like to inform our readers that registration is now open for the University of Haifa's Study Tour:  The Land of Israel: The Jewish Connection.  We are pleased to announce that Yisrael Ne'eman will be teaching and guiding the course from June15, 2008 - July 3, 2008.  Any current undergraduate student may attend and the course is worth four academic credits.

Yisrael invites you to join him and students from around the world at the University of Haifa this June for an unforgettable field study adventure where the past meets the future. In three amazing weeks of classroom and on-site lectures, hiking, reading and exploring, you will gain a hands-on, close-up understanding of the history and the challenges facing Israel and the Jewish People.

The course is timed to fit most university schedules and can be easily combined with the University of Haifa’s Intensive Hebrew Summer Ulpan or any other summer program.

Here’s what past students had to say about the course:

The Study Tour was an amazing experience.  I learned so much.  The
combination of lecture and field study really helped me understand and put
into context what we were learning about.  Living in Haifa also gave me a
chance to see daily Israeli life.  When I came home, I had an understanding
of Israel's past and present that no other experience would have been able
to give me.
Rachael LaBattaglia
Towson University

I would love to say that  this experience changed my life
and opened my eyes to all areas of Israel.  I feel that I have grown as a
person from this tour and become much more independent. I met the most
amazing people and was able to build life long friendships. I learned
about the foundations of Israel and how it came to be the state it is
today. Also, I can understand and appreciate Israel more with this new
perspective. I would definitely recommend this course; it was one of the
best times of life!

Thank you (Yisrael) very much for being
such an excellent educator/guide for the Study Tour.  I cannot tell you
how much I learned from the course and how much I enjoyed having you as
a guide.  You never failed to deliver insights while maintaining your
status as the best raconteur one could expect to receive for the
course.

Patrick Cox
Boston University

I'd like to thank you (Yisrael) for being such an interesting and dynamic teacher. I learned a lot with you as a guide and most importantly I have become interested in studying some of the material you presented more closely on my own.
Sarah Newcombe
University of Victoria, BC Canada

The University of Haifa's Study Tour is the best introduction to Israel
and Israeli history that I can imagine.  Yisrael's lectures are
informative and complete.  The trips taken during Study Tour are fun,
hands on, and complete the course.  Combining the lectures with the
field trips gives a comprehensive view of the State of Israel.

One of my favorite memories of Study Tour was during one of our
traveling expeditions.  We got out of the bus walked through a field,
past some stabled horses and arrived at a grass covered field.  Yisrael
then proceeded to tell us the story of a battle that took place in that
spot.  I was amazed at how much history was contained on this grassy
hill that no one would have been able to find without local knowledge.

Yisrael is full of intimate knowledge with the land and history of
Israel that gives an inside view of the place.  If I had the
opportunity I would take the Study Tour course all over again!
